Inspiratus — With education comes freedom

Developmental education

Education that opens doors

Inspiratus supports health, fitness and wellbeing education across HM Prisons, working alongside PE departments, drug strategy teams and other groups. Our team has worked in HMPs for more than 20 years each.

Engaging learners from day one

Introducing Lifestyle Management and Personal Wellbeing early in a sentence encourages self-reflection, personal development and interest in industry-led qualifications. We help each establishment’s departments become places of opportunity.

Most of our qualifications are population-friendly, so previous offences don’t prevent a learner from joining. Courses confidently address body image, bullying, drugs and alcohol, smoking, and healthy changes around food and activity, with flexible timetables that fit each regime.

For learners who want a career in fitness, we support a staged route through Levels 1, 2 and 3. Many establishments ask Level 2 learners to support Level 1, creating peer mentoring and valuable work experience that improves employment prospects on release.

The process

  1. 1

We meet your staff to agree delivery options that suit your establishment, introduce contacts and processes, and collect staff CVs, certificates and your proposed timetable. The gym is registered as a satellite centre and tutor materials are sent for each course.

  2. 2

Once approval from Transcend Awards is received, staff send a resource request at least two weeks before delivery. Resources, enrolments and paperwork are couriered to your nominated contact, along with any policies HM Prison needs.

  3. 3

Staff deliver the qualifications. Learner allocations are made after security screening. We visit during the first courses to support quality and observe teaching, and IQA starts with formative sampling and learner feedback.

  4. 4

When a course finishes, learner assessment records are couriered to Internal Quality Assurance for an initial 100% portfolio check.

  5. 5

IQA is completed within 10 working days and outcomes are emailed. Referred portfolios are returned for amendments. Passed portfolios trigger certificate orders, which normally arrive within 28 days.

  6. 6

We send course statistics and feedback to the establishment, covering improvements, staff support, attendance and learner progression.

Our partnership

Qualifications from Transcend Awards

We are an integral partner of Transcend Awards and deliver their vocational qualifications in HMP establishments, including bespoke qualifications designed for the prison population. All are Ofqual-regulated, and we make sure you know each one’s population suitability.

Every establishment gets a named member of our quality team, and we develop through-the-gate partnerships so learners can keep progressing after release.
